Press Conference

Press Conference at the US Attorney's Office in Saint Louis

Members of the Ferguson community and the larger St. Louis area, seeking justice for Mike Brown and Kajieme Powell, both young unarmed black men killed by police earlier this month, carried their demands to St. Louis city and federal policymakers on Tuesday, August 26th at noon.

In a large rally at St. Louis City Hall, residents from the Ferguson and St. Louis area demanded accountability for abuses carried out by the St. Louis City Police while deployed in Ferguson. The residents also demanded that individuals who participated in the protests in Ferguson who remain held in St. Louis City jails be immediately released.

The group then marched to U.S. Attorney Richard Callahan’s office to push the Department of Justice to use the full resources and powers to implement a nationwide investigation of systematic police brutality and harassment in black and brown communities. In accordance with the demands laid out on handsupunited.org, the demonstrators also called upon the US Department of Justice to start taking immediate steps to require all police departments to require front facing cameras for their officers.
