Freedom Means Vote Fannie Lou Hamer - Shirt
from 35.00
Fired, evicted, threatened and beaten for registering and encouraging others to vote, Fannie Lou Hamer is a champion.
“Is this America?” she asked. “The land of the free and the home of the brave, where we have to sleep with our telephones off the hooks because our lives be threatened daily because we want to live as decent human beings, in America?” - Fannie Lou Hamer
Mother Hamer dedicated her life to the struggle of the poor and disenfranchised; working for SNCC (Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee) she was in the number of brave souls who organized the 1964 Freedom Summer. As a founder of the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, Mother Hamer ran for congress in 1964 and 1965 while demanding the MFDP be recognized over the state's 'official' segregated party.
